Education and Working Experience
Tian Wei was admitted to Renmin University of China and majored in Philosophy in 1978. She graduated and obtained her Bachelor of philosophy in 1982. From 1982 to 1984, she taught Philosophy in the department of Social science at BeiJing Sport University. In September of 1984, she returned to Renmin University of China for Master’s degree of philosophy. She graduated and got Master in July, 1987 and started to work at Tsinghua University as a instructor. Late she was promoted to associate professor and full professor. She visited Regensburg University of Germany in 1998 and was a visiting scholar at Boston University in the academic year of 2003 and 2004. She had also done some research in the Sino-Christian Institute of Hong Kong in 2007.
Teaching and Research
She is the first teacher to teach the courses of “Religious ethics and religious culture” and “A study of western philosophy” for Master and Ph.D. students in Tsinghua University. For undergraduate students, she also taught the fundamental courses including “The history of Western philosophy”, “ Modern western philosophy” and the public lectures concerning ” Marxist philosophy”, ”Fundamental principles of Marxism” and a course entitled “A trend of thought in modern western philosophy” for general education.
Her research fields cover western philosophy and religious studies, especially philosophy of religion and ethics of religion. She also have done some comparative studies between Christian and Confucian ethics.
She has completed several research projects such as “The connection of Morality and Faith:a study of religious ethics”(Beijing Philosophy and Social Science “11-5 program”Fund), “Study on the religious civilization in western medieval society”,and “Transcendent dimension: a study of religious ethics”（Both are “985”Humanities and Social Science Fund of Tsinghua University）, “Study on global Civilization”(Beijing Philosophy and Social Science “9-5 program”Fund,co-auther).Now she is undertaking the project “Christian and Confucian ethics from the perspective of religious ethics”( Ministry of Education Social Science Fund).She has published a few books and more than 100 articles in acedemic journals. She has also earned several prominent awards on teaching, research and translation.
